Sasquatch, aka bigfoot, are very elusive creatures. They live in the wilderness and know it like you know your living room. They are highly intelligent and most do not give them credit for just how smart they are. They are masters of their environment.
Here are some basic questions people ask.
What is the Olympic Project?
We are a group of people with interest in Sasqauatch/bigfoot. We work collectively in various fields to try and collect as much information about the subject as we can so we can hopefully find any patterns that may present itself with the thorough research we do.
We then present our findings as we collect it and present it to those interested. It is up to those interested, to draw their own conclusions.
Why haven't we found bigfoot bones?
There are a few theories regarding this. First, the wilderness is very efficient at utilizing everything around it, including mammals. It’s often said that you will not find bones of a black bear that has died of natural causes because the forest (including other animals, the acidic soil, etc) consumes things within days.
Another theory is that they bury their dead.
With everyone owning a camera and video on their phone, why haven't we gotten anything?
Who says we haven’t? There are some very interesting video and photos out there that deserve discussion and analysis. Many ignore them because they (the photos/video or the subjects) don’t look like they THINK they should.
Another thing most don’t know is that the typical Sasquatch sighting is under 10 seconds. By an unsuspecting person at that. How long does it take you to get your phone out, unlock it, load the camera/video app, then take some footage? I think you will find that by the time YOU are ready, the sighting is over.
But add the initial “shock” people often go through when they encounter this creature that supposedly doesn’t exist. Many people report that they didn’t even think to take a picture or shoot video simply because of the excitement of the moment. It’s a lot easier said than done when we talk about “what you would do” in that situation.
Are there Sasquatch all around the world?
In the U.S., Sasquatch have been sighted in all U.S. states but Hawaii. Worldwide, there are variants of Sasquatch reported that seem to be related to the North American Bigfoot. Australia has the “Yowie”, Vietnam has the Orang-Pendek and other parts of the world have similar creatures.
Are bigfoot dangerous?
Bigfoots can be very intimidating and have shown signs of aggression in the past. It is our understanding that they may do this to get you to leave the area. We have not heard of any recent reports of bigfoots harming people. We have actually had more reports of bigfoots helping people. Just remember, the wilderness is the home for the Sasquatch and they run the show.
What should I do if I encounter one?
First and foremost, remain calm. They are curious creatures and are often seen observing people. Some theories support that they enjoy watching children play, people laughing, having fun.
If you are able to, try to remember as much as you can about the creature. Its characteristics, hair, facial features, what it was doing, as much information as you can.
Report it on this website and we will have our team contact you.
*Remember, encountering a Sasquatch is a rare and very special thing. It can be frightening because of their size but remember that you will not be harmed. We are sympathetic to witnesses and their experiences and treat them all with respect.
Why don't we tranquilize one?
A couple things you have to consider with this:
What is the weight of the bigfoot you want to tranquilize? If you don’t know then you run the risk of over/under estimating the amount of sedative needed to do the job. In the unlikely event you try anyway, how far will the bigfoot get before it drops? Who has the ability to go where the creature goes? Tranquilizing animals is not an easy accomplishment. Tracking them after the deed is done is even more problematic. We also believe they work in groups. What about a tranquilized bigfoot getting assistance before you can track it down? Darting and capturing a bigfoot is not as easy as theory may suggest.
Most do not realize how difficult it is to even encounter a bigfoot let alone “dart” one. That’s why a sighting/encounter is such a special thing. “Darting” one would not be a productive way to learn about them. We are not trying to prove its existence. We know they are out there.
How do I become a researcher?
Anybody can become a researcher or “citizen scientist” as Dr. Jeff Meldrum likes to say. It takes time and dedication to really become an effective bigfoot researcher. We would advise that you attend one of our retreats to help you learn some of the basic outdoor skills to more intermediate things like track casting.
Where can I report a bigfoot sighting?
You can report your bigfoot sighting on this website. If you would allow us, we would contact you to discuss your experience.
What is a big misconception about Sasquatch?
That there is only one lone creature making appearances around the country. There are many of these “creatures” in 49 states.
I've worked in the woods my whole life. Dont you think I would have seen one?
So have we. And some of us have seen them, others haven’t. Some of us have been eye to eye with a cougar, others have not. Some people have tracked wolves in the Olympics, others have not. Panda’s were considered a myth and it took some 10 years before they could find those slow, less intelligent animals that seem to only eat one thing.
Some theorize that sightings of any kind are all on the the terms of the Sasquatch. We can’t support or refute that because we simply don’t know.
